An Australian Government program for new immigrants and refugees providing English language teaching, counselling and support services.

Adult Migrant English Service (AMES)

AMES provides English language and literacy programs and related services; including workplace training programs for newly arrived immigrants, jobseekers, workplace clients and youth.

Advanced diploma

A qualification that can be issued by a vocational training provider.

Australian National Training Authority (ANTA)

A former Australian Government authority that developed national policy and programs for the Vocational Education and Training sector. From 2005 the responsibilities and functions of ANTA were transferred to the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)

An Australian Government authority that identifies the qualifications available in three sectors of education: schools, Vocational Education and Training, and higher education. A national code is assigned to each nationally accredited course or qualification to ensure recognition throughout Australia.

Australian Training Awards

A set of awards to recognise and reward students, apprentices, trainees, employers, training providers and other organisations who have shown high levels of achievement or best practice in Vocational Education and Training.

AUSTUDY

An Australian Government payment to full-time students aged 25 years and older who are undertaking an approved course of education.
