Digital Education Revolution - NSW

The Digital Education Revolution - NSW (DER-NSW) program aims to provide laptops for all NSW secondary student in years 9 to 12 by 2012. The program is funded by the Australian Government's National Secondary Schools Computer Fund.

Learning resources for DER-NSW

Resources have been developed by Centre for Learning Innovation to support the DER-NSW program and assist teachers using the laptops within the classroom. Many of these resources are available to view or download from the Parent and community area:

  • UCreate are a series of one page guides to support using technology in the classroom. 
  • Tools4U provide support for using Adobe, Microsoft and other software applications.
  • Sites2See are a collection of quality online resources in a range of subject areas.
  • All Laptop friendly resources can be found using the keyword DERNSW.

Know your laptop

In 2009 Year 9 students and supporting teachers received the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e. This year Year 9 students will receive the Lenovo ThinkPad Mini 10. Details for both models are shown below:

The IdeaPad S10e and ThinkPad Mini 10 contains many security features including:

  • Content Filtering: Strong, hack resistant network locking or policy based network filtering.
  • System Identification: Radio Frequency Identification and Electronic call-home.
  • Theft Protection and Deterrence: Hack-resistant hardware level technologies to track and render stolen notebooks useless.
  • Physical Security: Each device is supported by tamper-proof screws and a Kensington lock slot on the device enables the option of security cables to secure the entire device.
  • Secure Passwords: BIOS passwords help protect the system from changes which could impair the security of the device.
  • Tamper Evident Seal: A sticker seal is used to identify unauthorised entry to the Hard Drive bay has occurred, designed in such a way that it cannot be removed without being damaged beyond re-use.

The ThinkPad Mini 10 also includes Active Protection System (APS) to reduce possiblity of system failure as a result of the Hard Drive damage.
